Ceramics

Beginning Hand Building

Low Fire (cone ~04) Earthenware with terra sigilatas, Majolica, oxide and carbonate washes, and other glazes.

Historical Recreation:

Pick a historical ceramic piece (pottery or other object) to recreate once at 7 inches and once at 14 inches. The surface design of one of the pieces will look like the original and the other's surface can be designed any way you want.

Planes to Volumes Project:

Create a 2D template to then use to create a set or grouping of objects.

Transformation Project

Pick two objects, one organic and one geometric. Recreate the originals and 3 additional forms that represent the two originals tranforming or turning in to each other.

Beginning Wheel Throwing

High fire (cone 10) stoneware with traditional and unique high fire glazes, slips, and oxide/carbonate washes.

Sculpture

3D Design or Beginning Sculpture

Cardboard Chair

Using reclaimed cardboard, hot glue, Elmer's glue, and paper gum tape, create a cardboard chair that can bear a person's weight.

Multiples Project

Pick an object to build with and create a sculpture using a minimum of 30 of this object. Additional materials can be incorporated.

Self Portrait in Wire

Using the designated gauges of wire create a 3D self portrait considering how it will exist in space.

Wall Assemblage Triptych

Pick an artwork (preferably one you can visit in person) and do a 20 minute free-write about this piece. Using this writing and your experience of the piece, create 3 wall hanging assemblages pieces about the artwork you chose using a minimum of 5 different materials including paper mache clay.

I love teaching and truly believe in arts education and how what students learn in art classes can permeate endlessly into how they navigate the world. I look forward to working with my students and am so excited about the work they make and to be a part of their educational experiences.
